Naming the band as a nod to their Northern roots, they officially started LASS in May 2021 after years of a shared passion and collaboration on different musical projects. With melodies ranging from feel-good pop to nostalgic folk, they navigate relatable topics and manage to write catchy tunes each time. When it comes to crafting songs, the chemistry at work between the two is the bedrock of LASS’ uniqueness and ability to create universal songs that win people over towards unity. The folksy pop duo infuse their lush harmonies with a bit of Northern grit, inspired by the narrative focused music of Lorde and Maggie Rogers, whilst carving out their sound with nods to Sigrid and HAIM. LASS embody 21st century womanhood. The dynamic song puts its finger on the duality of self-sufficiency and interconnectedness on a backbone of alternative accents and the band’s signature indie tone. From the first notes, the song is built on a strong rhythmic foundation - from bass pulsations to more atmospheric guitar riffs - and certainly doesn’t wait for the chorus to capture its audience with LASS’ fresh indie pop! The simplicity of the verses highlights LASS’ smooth voices while the rock accents peppered in the mix give the song an attractive grittier edge. By also adding details like a 90s guitar reverb in the second verse as well as resonating hooks throughout, the harmonising duo offer a sleek track that cleverly plays with contrast lyrically and musically. ‘Good Company’ remains coherent all along though, becoming sonically more intricate as the song develops. With their gentle yet robust vocals, LASS repeatedly ask, “If you’re honest are you dealing in the places you feel weakest? / Have you hit a feeling ceiling?” leaving listeners with thoughts to ponder. Ultimately, ‘Good Company’ questions the status quo and encourages us to take a step towards each other!
