The Bagalkote by-election has become a major headache for the Congress party as internal conflicts and ticket aspirants increase day by day. What should have been a smooth candidate selection process has now turned into a full-blown factional war inside the party. After the sad demise of senior leader H.Y. Meti, the Bagalkote seat fell vacant. Since then, multiple groups within Congress have started lobbying for the ticket. The biggest tug-of-war is happening inside the Meti family itself. Mahadevi Meti, the younger daughter of H.Y. Meti, is strongly demanding the ticket and refusing to step back. At the same time, another group is supporting Mallikarjun and Umesh Meti, while yet another faction is aligned with CM Siddaramaiah’s close aide Holabasu Shettar.
