Powdery mildew is a fungus that affects a lot of the greens grown by Upstart Farmers, like chard, lettuce, mustard, as well as crops like tomatoes. This is a very common pest. Check regularly for signs of infection. Once identified, remove affected leaves as close to the stalk as possible. Do not compost infected plant material. Serenade spray is an over-the-counter biological, fungal chemical control. Fungicides work best as a preventative measure, particularly around crops susceptible to mildew, and also function as a mitigator in the early stages of disease development. Various horticultural oils can control for powdery mildew. Sulfur sprays or burners may also be an effective disease control. Do not apply within 2 weeks of applying oils.
