How much advanced this model had already been becomes obvious, when you "upgrade" it with the system-components available for this camera. The spring driven motor transports the film, cocks the shutter, opens the automatic aparture and brings back the mirror. In connection with the fine, automatic "Olympiasonnar" 2,8/180mm, the Praktina IIa becomes the fastest and most comfortable tool for reportage and sports photography available at that time. To my mind it doesn't even have to fear competition with some of the current digital toys. ;-) Wie weit fortgeschritten die Praktina IIa des Jahres 1958 bereits gewesen ist, merkt man erst, wenn man sie einmal mit dem zur Verfügung stehenden Systemzubehör "ausreizt". Der Federwerkantrieb transportiert den Film, spannt den Verschluß, öffnet die vollautomatischen Springblende und bringt den Spiegel in die Betrachtungsposition. Zusammen mit dem lichtstarken Olympiasonnar 2,8/180 ergab das damals eine Reportagekamera, die in Punkto Schnelligkeit und Bequemlichkeit selbst mit manch aktueller Digitalkamera mithalten kann.
