សួស្តី (soo-a sdei) from Cambodia 🇰🇭 We’re back in my motherland; Cambodia. It feels unreal that we're back to explore what it's really like living in Cambodia. As second-gen Aussies, this is more than just travel vlogs. We grew up hearing stories about where our parents came from, but being here, walking through the same places, hearing the language, tasting the food… it hits different. We started the day with a tuk tuk ride, super easy, super local (and about $1 to get around!). I tested out my Khmer during conversations from the locals curious about our journey in Cambodia, even got a few compliments for sounding like a true khmer local (or maybe they were just being nice haha). At the museum, we saw beautiful stone relics that told stories older than we could wrap our heads around. So much of this history is still being uncovered, and it makes you realise how deep and rich the Khmer culture really is. Later, when the heat finally eased and after a long snooze... we made our way to one of our favourite sites in the world, Angkor Wat. Tested out more of my khmer with the local driver, while Gabriel sat lost in translation... once again. Angkor was beautiful. It was peaceful, golden and unreal. You feel something shift being there... like time slows down and you’re just… present, in the moment. After only one day, we’re already learning new Khmer words together, clarifying unknown meanings, making plenty of mistakes and laughing through it all. Turns out my Khmer isn’t as rusty as I thought... and Gabriel’s giving it a go too. The more we explore, the more we fall in love with Cambodia. Not just the places, but the people, the energy, the resilience. We hope that by sharing our journey, more people... especially those from the diaspora; feel inspired to reconnect with their roots. This country has so much love, and we hope you see it through our lens. 🎥 STAY TUNED FOR PART 2, we go deeper into the temples of Angkor and try traditional khmer food. LIKE & SUBSCRIBE to come along with us. 📅 Date: Saturday, March 29th, 2025 📍 Locations: Siem Reap – Sok San Road, Angkor Museum, Angkor Wat Thanks for watching 🙏 Keep smiling, Linda & Gabriel @LindaandGabriel _________________________________ 💬 ABOUT US: We’re The Cambodian & The Greek — two second-gen Aussies who traded city life for something completely different. My family came to Australia as refugees fleeing the Khmer Rouge. Gabriel’s Greek family built a new life in Australia. In 2022, losing my hard working father reminded us that life is too short to keep waiting for the "right time." So in 2024, we sold everything, packed two suitcases, and left to travel full-time. Now, we’re reconnecting with our roots, living slow, and sharing real moments as we figure life out living abroad. 🎥 New vlogs every week in 4K 📍Currently in Cambodia and Thailand - for now.... #travelvlog #cambodia #siemreap #angkorwat #lifeabroad #diaspora #aussieabroad #lindaandgabriel #expatlife #walkingtour #khmerculture #reconnect #slowliving #travelcouple #multilingual #siemreapnights #tuktuklife #travel #australian #lindaandgabriel #diasporadiaries #cambodianaustralian #greekaustralian #australian #refugee #khmerrouge #teacher
