Crocodiles of India 🐊 🇮🇳 | Reptiles | Indian Reptiles

There are 3 Crocodile species found in India, the state-wise details are as follows, North India – Gharial Indian Subcontinent – Marsh Crocodile North East India – Gharial East Indian Coast – Salt Water Crocodile 00:00 Intro 3 species of crocodiles are found in India 00:15 Gharial Also known as gavial or the fish-eating crocodile are critically endangered and found in the Indus, Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers of North and North East India. They are one among the longest of all living crocodiles. Females measure 2.6–4.5 m, and males measure 3–6 m in length. They have a distinct boss at the end of the snout, which resembles an earthenware pot known as a ghara, hence they have derived the name "gharial". Male gharas develop a hollow bulbous nasal protuberance at tip of their snout upon reaching sexual maturity. This enables them to emit a hissing sound that can be heard 75 m away. Gharial is well adapted to catching fish because of their long, thin snout which has 110 sharp, interlocking teeth. Females congregate in spring to dig nests, in which they lay 20–95 eggs. They are olive-coloured, with adults being darker than young, which have dark brown cross bands and speckles, and yellowish white belly. They are thoroughly aquatic crocodiles, and leaves the water only for basking and building nests on moist sandbanks. Their fingers and toes are partly webbed. 02:11 Marsh Crocodile Also known as the mugger crocodile is a medium-sized broad-snouted crocodile. They are a vulnerable species and are distributed throughout the Indian subcontinent. Their head is rough without any ridges and has large scutes around their neck. Adults are dark olive to grey or brown. Juveniles are pale olive with black spots. They have the broadest snout among all living crocodiles and a series of 19 upper teeth on each side. They inhabit freshwaters such as lakes, rivers and marshes, and prefers slow-moving, shallow water bodies. 03:19 Salt Water Crocodile Are native to saltwater habitats and brackish wetlands mostly found along the East India Costs. They are also known as the estuarine crocodile, Indo-Pacific crocodile, marine crocodile, sea crocodile or informally as saltie. They are the largest living reptile and crocodile. Males grow to a length of up to 6 m (20 ft), and weigh a 1,000–1,300 kg (2,200–2,900 lb). They have longer snout than marsh crocodile; the length of their snout is twice its width at the base. Pair of ridges runs from the eyes along the centre of their snout. Juveniles are pale yellow in colour with black stripes and spots on their bodies and tails. This colouration lasts for several years until the crocodiles mature into adults. Stripes are present on the lower sides of their bodies, but do not extend onto their bellies. Their tails are grey with dark bands. They have an aggressive temperament and are considered dangerous for people who share the same environment. 04:44 Outro #Crocodiles #Reptiles #IndianReptiles #IndianLizards #NativeAnimals #Crocodile Native Animals Animal Reptile Reptiles Indian Reptile Indian Reptiles Desi Chipkalee Desi Chipkali Palli Pallee Udumbu Udumboo Crocodile Alligator Alligators YouTube Education Fauna of India:    • Видео   Information Sources: Internet Documentation: Amrita L Kutuva and Hansen Thambi Prem Technical Support: Rohan Prem Hansen Video Editing Software: https://www.lwks.com/ Intro and Outro: https://www.velosofy.com; https://placeit.net/ Number Background Sound: https://www.youtube.com/audiolibrary/...
