I spent $40 on feeding my family for this week. That's including non-grocery necessities, as well food. It's also including that buying my son a new pair of shoes. I still ended up with enough meals to make it through part of next week. And, no one here is going to feel like they're going without; Here is how I do that: when I do spend a "normal" amount on food-say $100--maybe more, depending on circumstances...I spend a percentage of that, maybe %10, on "building my reserves", or stocking up. I go to 'scratch and dent' type places when I have the time; look for sales...and stock up accordingly. Not everything I buy is "cheap". When I have the money, I might spend a little on some rare, or "exotic" ingredient, like some jarred pimentos--which is how I'm able this week, to make some fancy stuffed italian shells--I already had most everything to make that meal with; I always keep canned mushrooms, water chestnuts, some black olives, a little canned meat on hand.
