This is the story of Rainbow Farm. _________________________________________________________________ Most Americans are familiar with the stories of Ruby Ridge and Waco. Both incidents involved groups of people that the government deemed undesirable, either through their actions or their beliefs. And both incidents ended with government agencies murdering American citizens on their own property, causing widespread public scrutiny against the agencies responsible. The story we are discussing today is all too similar to these tragedies; yet, is commonly forgotten by the American public. This is the story of Michigan's Marijuana Monastery, Rainbow Farm. Tom Crosslin, born in 1955 in the city of Elkhart, Indiana, was described as being "built like a bear" and some of those that knew him referred to him as a "hothead". In his early life he was a member of a motorcycle gang. Once, after being stiffed on a paycheck by his employer, he brought a gun to their discussion and was subsequently convicted with a felony for it. After this, he became a long-haul trucker, moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and made a good deal of money selling legal pills and erecting flagpoles. At one point in his life, he was even married to a woman. However, by the late 80's things had changed for Crosslin. He moved to Michigan and began flipping homes. It was during this time that he met a man who would eventually become the co-founder of Rainbow Farm. His name was Rolland Rohm, though he went by the name Rollie. Rollie was, by all accounts, a “really easy going” and “very peaceful” man. He was described as “the quintessential hippie” without “a mean bone in his body.” When he met Crosslin, he was 16 and worked at an RV Factory in Elkhart, Indiana. Rollie had just separated from his wife, whom he had had a son with the year prior. Sometime between 1991 & 92, Rollie moved into a group home that Crosslin owned. It wasn't long before the two formed a close relationship, eventually becoming lovers and moving into a private residence together. In 1993, Crosslin purchased a 35 acre plot of land outside of Vandalia, Michigan. This is the land that would ultimately become Rainbow Farm. In 1994, Rollie won full custody over his son and the 3 became a close-knit family, with Crosslin treating the young boy as his own. It was at this time that they were repairing the farm home that was built on their land. At first, it was unlivable, but Crosslin saw the beauty of the land and knew that he wanted to make a home there for his new found family. #rainbowfarm #truecrimestories #forgottenhistory
