Watch in 4K! For the heavy drive tones, I'm using the German Mahadeva Amp with a 1x12 Lead 80 Cabinet. This is modelled after a Bogner Shiva and a Bogner 1x12 Cabinet loaded with a Celestion Classic Lead 80 (CL80) speaker. I'm running it pretty high gain and then boosted with a minotaur running before it for more saturation. With my SSS strat, it's INCREDIBLY NOISY so I used a noise gate whenever this amp was in use. For the cleaner tones in the pre-chorus and chorus riffs, I'm using the Archetype Clean Amp with the 4 x 12 Cali V30 Cabinet. This is modelled after the Paul Reed Smith Archon's Clean Channel and a 4 x 12 Mesa Boogie 4FB Cabinet loaded with Celestion V30 Speakers. This amp was run mostly clean and had a very low gain Minotaur to add just a little bit of grit. ____________________________________________________________________ SOME THOUGHTS ON PLAYING PARTS! One important thing about playing guitar for this song is knowing when to play and when not to play. For example, all the interludes/instrumentals don't require a guitar and if you're playing during those portions, you're actually taking away a slice of the musical space from the dance trax going on in the back. The best policy is always to play what serves the song. Another place where this happens is in the verses, where the guitar only plays the riff before the verse and right before the pre-chorus. ON BLENDING MULTIPLE GUITAR PARTS FOR ONE EG The original song has 2 electric guitar parts and I blended them together for playing with just one electric guitar. There are several ways you can go about doing so. One way is to decide which guitar part to put in the multitracks/TRAX you're using and just play the other. However, I'm not that big of a fan of doing so because you might be doing a reprise without the trax, or if the trax has issues, it may end up sounding pretty empty. So I generally do this another way, by blending the parts together such that you get a 'fuller' sound from the guitar parts. Taking the pre-chorus as an example. For the first pre chorus, I played the lead guitar part with that slightly funky riff. However, without the other guitar playing the big chords for rhythm, it becomes very thin sounding. For the second pre-chorus, I blended both parts together by playing the funky lead part for the first half of the pre-chorus (which stands out more in the mix on the original song) and then played the big chords to build it into the chorus for the second half of the pre-chorus. Likewise, for the second chorus, the first half of it is 'down' in terms of dynamics while the second part of it is 'up'. For the first part, I chose to play the lead line as it sits nicely on top of the mix, while for the second part I chose to go back to the big chords which help support the song as it builds in terms of dynamics. As usual, using Logic Pro X's Automation feature to change snapshots in Helix Native. May do a video rundown soon on my travel rig and what I'm using to record! ____________________________________________________________________ FOLLOW ME!
