Boeing envisioned the 797 as a composite, seven-abreast twin-aisle jet with an elliptical cross-section, offering improved fuel efficiency and lower operating costs. Key Features: Range and Capacity: Two versions were proposed: a 225-seater with a 5,000 nmi (9,300 km) range and a 275-seater with a 4,500 nmi (8,300 km) range. Economics: Expected to generate 30% more revenue than narrow-bodies and have 40% lower trip costs compared to wide-bodies. Engine Options: Would have been powered by a new 50,000 lbf (220 kN) turbofan from GE Aviation/CFM International or Pratt & Whitney However, the project has faced several delays and uncertainties. In January 2020, Boeing put the plans on hold to reevaluate the project, and by June 2022, the company announced that the development would not be pursued until new engines and development tools are mature.
