The Shimano Ultegra 14000 XTD and Ci4 XTC / XSC come with spool line reducers. I show you how to calculate how much line to put with each reducer and how I put new line on these reels to get the perfect line lay. The Ultegra 14000 XT-D has 2x line reducers (10000/3500) and the Ultegra 14000 CI4+ XTC / XSC has 3x line reducers (10000/6000/3500) When you put new line on your Shimano Ultegra 14000, you need to work out which line reducer to use based on the diameter of your line and the size of your spool. In this video, I’m spooling up with ESP Syncro XT Loaded in 10lb / 0.30mm. It comes in a spool of 1,000 meters and I want to put 300m of line per spool for long distance fishing. I also want to use 6m. of braided leader of 0.35 and I have some backing line (Berkley Big Game) of 0.38mm. Using an application called CalcLine, I can see that I need to put 12m. of backing line on in order to fill the spool perfectly. In the second part of the video, I show you how I spool my backing line and mainline on the reels. I then spool up another reel with the ESP Syncro XT Loaded in 18lb / 0.40mm diameter. This line is for short to medium range fishing and I don’t need to put a huge amount of line on.
