An entire cinema audience has been arrested in Minsk during a screening of a documentary that explores Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko's violent treatment of protesters. Europe's Last Dictator, a movie about the tyrannical president of Belarus premieres in London. The movie follows the brutal crackdown on opposition leaders after the 2010 vote that saw Alexander Lukashenko cling to power in what many say was a rigged election. "Europe's Last Dictator" is a new documentary by Daffodil Media. It follows the ruthless oppression on opposition leaders by Belarus president Lukashenko since his alleged vote rigging of the 2010 elections. On 19th December 2010, tens of thousands of demonstrators took to the streets of Minsk to protest the vote rigging. Among them were seven of the opposition presidential candidates. Lukashenko ordered a brutal crackdown on the demonstrators leading to hundreds of arrests. Presidential candidates Andrei Sannikov and Vladimir Neklyayev were severely beaten up during the rally and taken to prison as well as five other opposition leaders. The film Co-Director, Mathew Charles, had to film undercover in Minsk and was arrested by the KGB, the Belarus secret police. In March, the Council of Europe condemned Lukashenko's decision to execute two men found guilty of bombing the underground in April 2011, killing 15 people, and wounding over 300 others. One of the men, Dmitry Konovalov, confessed to the bombing but later rescinded his testimony claiming it was obtained under duress. Human rights groups argued that there was not enough evidence to convict the pair and said no motive for the killings had been proven in court, reports the BBC. Former US Secretary of State Condaleeza Rice has called the country "the last true remaining dictatorship in the heart of Europe".
