It means recording an audio or auxiliary track with plugins on it to a NEW audio track. This allows you to have the processed audio without the added process power the computer needs to run the plugins. The printing of tracks comes into place when you're happy with the plugins you've setup because if you want to change something, you have to go back and tweak the plugins on the ORIGINAL track and REPRINT again. This is not so bad if you're tracks are labeled accordingly. (Example: Original track with plugins labeled: "LEAD" and the printed track labeled: "LEAD P") This is especially helpful if you want to process a lot of vocals from the same vocalist (if they recorded everything in the same place/mic etc etc). [You may have to watch your compressors for proper input levels from the different tracks] You can then add additional plugins to these tracks. It will be many less plugins than if you didn't print them.
