This video gives a short overview of the 1st International Symposium on Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC) held in Rüschlikon, Switzerland, on May 31, 2012. ARVC is a rare and often underestimated disease involving primarily the right ventricle of the heart. A typical feature is the replacement of myocardial tissue by fibrofatty infiltrates, leading to electrical instability, including arrhythmias and heart failure later on. ARVC is recognized as a cause of sudden, exercise-related death in athletes under 35 years of age. The aim of the symposium was to review the available data, define better diagnostic tools as risk predictors in order to reduce mortality of affected patients.
