New Ukulele Tutorials every Wednesday and Saturday Today we are going to learn how to play "Norwegian Wood (The Bird has Flown)" by the Beatles. We are doing this one in the chord melody style, but this would also work if you are going to sing it because this is essentially the style they play it in while the sing it, so whether you are playing this as a chord melody instrumental or you are playing and singing it this tutorial is perfect for you. Did you know that this song was the inspiration for a novel in Japan? In the book it is the protagonist favorite song. This song was influenced by lyrics of a Bob Dylan song and it is is considered a milestone in song writing for the Beatles because it was the first time you heard the sitar on any Beatles recording as George Harrison is playing the sitar in the song. The song is in an AB format with the first time through the verse being the intro. It is worth noting that the original key of this song is the key of E, making it literally at least 10 times harder to play so we went with the key of G, which is a great key for the chord melody because the lovely high G string you have, really getting the most of it.
