Mauban is a first class municipality in the northern part of Quezon province. It is facing Lamon Bay and is surrounded by mountains, pretty much like the rest of the towns in the province. Mauban is famous for the white sand beaches of Cagbalete Island. Among the town's prominent figures was Fr. Horacio de la Costa, the first Filipino Superior of the Jesuit Province in the Philippines (1964–1970). Maubanog Festival is celebrated yearly in the month of July, highlighting the famous product nipanog/lambanog, an alcoholic beverage made from the naturally fermented sap of palm trees, specifically nipa (sasa).
