This video provides a tutorial on creating a customized "Hub-like" portal in WebFOCUS, serving as an alternative to the standard WebFOCUS Hub for report consumers. The WebFOCUS Hub vs. Custom Portals The standard WebFOCUS Hub allows users to navigate workspaces and run reports, but it can be overwhelming for pure consumers who do not need access to the full content tree. While the standard Hub can be white-labeled by changing colors and logos, building a custom application portal offers more control over the user experience, allowing administrators to create a simplified, focused interface. Building the Hub-Like Portal To build a custom portal, you can create a new application portal and name it something like "Hub-like portal". Within this portal, administrators can extensively customize the interface: Theming and Branding: You can apply custom themes, change colors, and replace the standard banner logo with custom images (e.g., a company logo). Navigation Menus: The top navigation banner can be customized. For instance, the user menu can be restricted so that it only shows the username and a "Sign Out" option, hiding other complex settings. Adding Content: Navigation bars can be added to link to existing WebFOCUS overview pages. Integrating Content and External Links A custom page can be created within the portal to act as the primary interface for report exploration. Using "Container" controls, you can add an explorer view that mimics the standard Hub experience—allowing users to see all reports and features—but without the "Plus/Designer" creation capabilities. To clean up the interface, container titles and toolbars can be hidden. Additionally, the portal can be customized to include start pages or external links. Administrators can use "Link Tiles" to display a "Message of the Day" or add Basic Containers connected to an external URL (such as a community forum or internal company page). Managing Page Navigation The order of the pages (e.g., Start Page, Hub Overview, Community Link) within the portal's navigation bar can be easily managed. By accessing the advanced settings of each page, administrators can adjust the numeric sort order (including using negative numbers) to control exactly which page loads first and how the tabs are arranged from left to right.
