DOD Boneshaker as a Preamp?

How well does the Boneshaker stack up as a preamp into a tube amp for high-gain metal sounds? Pretty well, it turns out. Now to be clear, I'm not using it as a true preamp into the effects loop, but more as a pre-eq pedal into the front with no gain. I've always tried to use this pedal for its distortion but found it left me wanting, but it's actually a great preamp with lots of useful features and great without even touching the distortion. A lot of people bought these when they were in production for great prices, now they can only be found on the used market for around $80+, which isn't terrible, but there may better options in that range.
