Today, I do an art review of the Universe Beyond, Spiderman, new Magic: the Gathering card "Hide on the Ceiling." This is a really beautiful piece of art, and it's distinguished by very nice use of what is called fish eye perspective. That's a technique used by the artist to depict curvilinear structure in an otherwise orthogonal or straight-line world. It uses a spherical grid and five vanishing points to show a distorted but still readable in a dramatic and suspenseful scene. Typical perspective uses only two vanishing points on the horizon. This "spherical" approach is perfectly suited to depict this scene and is a great choice by the artist; bravo! In this video, I show the spherical "grid" in small form and describe the vanishing points. I then show how they are evident in the way this work was done. What do you think of the art of this card? Do you like it? Will you use this card in a deck? How are you receiving Spider-Man Universe Beyond overall? Are you a fan? Yes or no... ??? Please let me know in the comments; I'd love to hear from you! The artist is Fariba Khamsa.
