Our customers approach us during an important period in their lives. A family's changing needs were the inspiration for how we envisioned a home that could represent a state of transition both conceptually and experientially. We use the term "liminal" to encapsulate the ideas that guide the design process, especially the sense of occupying a transitional space, coordinating movement through space, and living in the moments between at departure and upon arrival. The project site is located on the border between suburban residential areas and the natural rocky coastline of West Vancouver. Located on the expanding border between land and sea, the architectural design takes inspiration from the creatures that live in this transition zone, adapting to challenging conditions. Likewise, the house is built with durable materials such as concrete, stained Accoya wood and aluminum panels to withstand the harsh coastal environment. The ever-changing outdoor atmosphere at the seashore not only enlivens the house but is also enlivened by the house itself. Views are surrounded by sturdy walls and walls of glass, and their image is reflected in a dark pool of water at the edge of the property and in the glass of the courtyard. The reflections and refraction of the outdoors evoke a sense of neither here nor there but somewhere in between. #Design #Concrete #House #Transitional living # Design inspiration # Coastal environment # Liminal space # Architectural adaptation # Suburban to seashore # Enduring materials # Scenographic approach # Boundaries blurred # Courtyard design # Creative architecture # Coastal influence # Unique architectural style # Natural integration # Reflective elements
