New E-Cig Bill

A new electronic cigarette bill is awaiting the signature of Governor Bill Haslam. Thousands of Tennesseans are putting down cigarettes and picking up electronic ones. Preston Warfield says, "I tried the gum and the patches and it just didn't work, I still had that craving. A lot of it is doing something with your hands. I wanted something that reminded me of a cigarette." The tobacco smoker of 6 years now works at Nashville Vapor. Preston Warfield says, " I can smell things a lot better, I can taste things a lot better, I can run again. There are so many benefits short term. Long term, no one knows. " Dimitris Agrafiotis says, " It's safer. It's not healthy, it's healthier. It's not harmful, it's less harmful than traditional tobacco cigarettes." Dimitris Agrafiotis is the executive director of Tennessee Smoke Free Association. The non-profit works with legislators to reduce tobacco harm. A current bill requires child proof caps and banning selling to minors... Dimitris Agrafiotis says, " I would rather them do childproof caps and 18+ than what they are doing in some other states, simply because we are cutting into the tobacco tax. ." The CDC says high school students vaping tripled in a year. Most stores in the state do not sell to minors. Preston Warfield says, "We treat it like tobacco. It's a common courtesy thing more or less." Some say the nearly 300 local e-cig stores are not only helping keep vaporizers out of teens hands but helping the economy. Dimitris Agrafiotis, " The stores are actually anti-tobacco.
