This film shows the Sydney Monorail in March 1991, including a look at some of the stations, riding the trains and more. There are also a few views from when the system was under construction in 1988. This film was made long before the new tram line was opened so it offers a chance to see some areas as they were in the day before the tramway... Always controversial, right from the outset, the Sydney Monorail finally succummbed to its critics and closed on 30th June 2013. Unfortunately the system used low capacity trains; perhaps if it had of used higher capacity trains - as used in many Japanese towns and cities, then its greater carrying capacity would have silenced some of the critics and increased the justification for expanding the single 'starter line' to become a real urban transport (transit) metro system that serves more areas within the city of Sydney.
