To ensure there is no congestion at the international entry points, the Home Minister of Malaysia said on 5th December - 0:14 - Those exempted from submitting the MDAC are: Singaporeans travelling to Malaysia will not be required to fill up the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card. Besides Singaporeans, the following categories of travellers are also not required to complete the digital card: Malaysia long-term pass holders, those with Brunei common identification certificates and Brunei Malaysia Frequent Traveller Facility, holders of Thai border passes and Indonesian Cross-Border passes, diplomatic passport holders, Malaysian permanent residents. A grace period is in effect until 31st December 2023. Travellers can still fill out the digital card once they get to Malaysia, so flexibility is given. From January 1st, it will be compulsory to do so, within three days before arrival. Travelers are required to input personal information such as their name, nationality, passport details, as well as arrival and departure dates on the MDAC website. Travellers have to present their the completed digital card and passports and to the immigration officer on duty upon arrival. He stated that the introduction of the digital card is a security measure. The information provided on the card will offer crucial details about the travelers' whereabouts. It's not a new concept; other countries are also adopting similar practices. The announcement comes days after the country’s Immigration Department said on Facebook that the digital arrival card would be compulsory for all foreign nationals. This sparked discussion among some travellers, with confusion over whether this would be required of all arrivals, including those driving from Singapore or long term pass holders. Some also said it was unclear whether this was compulsory for entry via both manual immigration counters and e-gates. This decision followed Malaysia's initiative to grant citizens of China and India a 30-day visa-free entry to the country from December 1st, aiming to boost tourism and the economy. To facilitate the arrival process, 14 new passport control counters were established at KLIA from December 1st, increasing the total number to 60. 2:27 - How to Fill out the MDAC - Step by Step 3:11 - Digital card sent on email immediately after submission.
