In "Kill the Beast", Gaston is childhood friends with the prince, known and loved by almost everyone in the castle. Gaston loves reading more than almost anything else. He and Prince Kingsley love each other like brothers. Tragedy strikes, in the form of a terrible wolf beast. Prince Kingsley plans to marry Circe, but her witch sisters pressure Gaston into ending the relationship. Their plot succeeds, when they trick Kingsley into thinking Circe is a pig farmer. Circle circles back later and curses the prince. Unlike in the movie, the curse does not take effect right away. It slowly turns the prince into a monster, with every evil deed. Gaston attempts to stop the curse, by forcing an engagement between Prince Kingsley and Princess Tulip, which ends in tragedy for all involved. Gaston is away from the castle when the curse takes full force. Gaston forgets his life at the castle, as well as everyone in it, thanks to magical amnesia. The only thing he remembers is his hatred for the beast. Circe's sisters use their magic to force Gaston into being obsessed with Belle. As a result of this forced personality change, Gaston acts the way he does in the movie. I give this book a 3 out of 10.
