I just bought this KLR 650 off Facebook Marketplace and immediately sent it on a 1,000 mile ride across Nevada and Utah — during the coldest two days I’ve ever experienced on a motorcycle. The first night was so brutal I had to keep a fire going all night just to stay warm. Temperatures dropped hard, gear froze, and quitting crossed my mind more than once. On the second and final day, I stopped at Butch Cassidy’s childhood home, standing in the same place one of the most legendary outlaws in American history grew up — a wild moment in the middle of a trip that was already pushing my limits. After that, the cold was so miserable that I decided to push straight through and ride the rest of the way home. I didn’t roll back in until nearly midnight, finishing the trip on I-15 through Salt Lake City — on a 17-year-old adventure bike.
