Arts & Crafts architecture in South Africa, especially the Cape Dutch revival, was important for the identity and legitimacy of South Africa's Union in 1910 and the British Empire. Nic is an Associate Professor at the University of Cape Town. After his MArch at University of Colorado, Nic moved to London and did his doctorate at the Bartlett School. This illustrated talk stems from his research for his PhD. It forms part of his book, "Building Apartheid On Architecture and Order in Imperial Cape Town", published by Routledge. Catherine Croft, director of C20 Society based in London, responds to Nic's talk which was on Zoom for Culture Connect, Wed 26 May 2021. It finishes with a few questions.
