Here are some captures of Altopascio on 27 August 2021, a comune in Tuscany - Italy Up-to-date: 28/8/2021 New South Wales has recorded 1035 new local COVID-19 cases in the last day and two more deaths. More than 156,000 vaccine doses were administered and 129,000 tests conducted. NSW Health Minister Brad Hazzard thanked residents across the state. Altopascio is a comune in the Province of Lucca in the Tuscany region of Italy with a population of 15,572. Altopascio is one of the historic towns in Tuscany along the A11 Autostrada between Lucca and Florence, along the ancient Via Francigena pilgrimage route. When you come across a city on the pilgrimage route, you will expect to see 11-13 century Romanesque churches and facilities like hospitals, bars and even houses of prostitution set up for the pilgrims. While much of Altopascio's historical architecture is lost, there remain tantalizing glimpses of its Romanesque past. Altopascio has been known for its bread since medieval times. Altopascio's ouskirts are mared by some large, commercial bakeries, but the small historic center does retain some of its historic charm. The battle of Altopascio in 1325 pitted Castruccio Castracani with the Florentines. Castracani won and became duke of nearby Lucca. Known for centuries to all pilgrims who travel the Via Francigena, Altopascio is a small village called the "city of bread", since it maintains the ancient cereal tradition handed down from generation to generation. Its historic center preserves works of considerable artistic value, such as the church dedicated to San Jacopo, built in 1100, the period of greatest splendor for the Order of Hospitallers.
