Shiraz Maher, expert on radicalisation, warns young British men were being seduced by high profile apparent victories for Isis and desire to be at the forefront of what they regard as a holy war British nationals who have joined Isis, are "not back seat drivers" but desire to be at the very forefront of the conflict warned expert on radicalisation. British authorities launched a hunt on Wednesday for a man with a British accent whose voice featured on an Islamic State (IS) video purporting to show the beheading of an American journalist James Foley. The voice appeared to come from a masked IS jihadist, dressed in black, who stood next to a kneeling Foley in the video released online. Shiraz Maher, a senior research fellow at the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation at King's College London, said it was not surprising that a British man implicated in the video. "At the at the end of last year there was a British fighter who was a suicide bomber, earlier this year there were British fighters who were involved in the execution of Syrian regime soldiers," he said. "So the fact that there is a British man implicated in this video with the James Foley execution isn't that much of a shock given what we have seen in with British fighters in Syria." He warned that more young British men were being seduced by high profile apparent victories for Isis and feel emboldened and powerful by IS propaganda. "What makes this video so dramatic is the way it has been framed as a direct challenge to the US and that this is coming from a British fighter who is essentially challenging the President of the US to change the course of his foreign policy in that region." "And if he doesn't daring him, almost goading him, by presenting another hostage that they have, another American, and saying we will execute him if you don't change your ways."
