Vedic Civilization Vedic Civilization was one of the earliest civilizations of ancient India. It developed after the decline of the Indus Valley Civilization and is known mainly from the sacred texts called the Vedas. This civilization began around 1500 BCE when Indo-Aryan people settled in the north-western part of the Indian subcontinent. Over time, their culture spread across northern India. Society Vedic society was organized into different groups known as the varna system: Brahmins (priests and teachers) Kshatriyas (warriors and rulers) Vaishyas (traders and farmers) Shudras (workers and servants) Family and community life were very important, and education was usually given through the guru–shishya tradition. Religion Religion played a central role in daily life. People worshipped natural forces and gods such as: Indra Agni Varuna Rituals, sacrifices (yajnas), and hymns from the Vedas were important parts of worship. Economy The early Vedic people were mainly pastoral, depending on cattle for wealth. Later, agriculture developed and villages grew into towns. Trade and crafts also became common.
