One of the more common problems that I see in my office is an ingrown toenail. An ingrown nail is characterized by the side or both sides of the toenail growing into the skin. The skin becomes very red, inflamed, and in many times becomes infected. Once this happens, it’s extremely painful to walk on. There is a very easy procedure that I do in my office to remove the ingrown nail and get rid of the pain of ingrown nail. This is a permanent procedure. What I do is I numb the toe at the base of the toe back here and then I remove approximately 3 or 4 mm of the toenail on the side of the nail so the nail doesn’t look that much different after it heals. It is still almost the completely nail plate. After the procedure, there is relatively little pain and if there is pain it’s usually cured with Tylenol and/or Aleve. It only takes about five minutes to do the procedure and with this 5-minute procedure you will be very happy because you will never have an ingrown nail again. This is a permanent procedure.
