Phonograms & Metacognition Deck (01:08) This deck includes color-coded cards for: Vowels (Pink): Includes the phoneme, a keyword, a picture, and specific prompts and expected student responses on the back to guide your instruction on spelling patterns (e.g., when to use 'ai' vs. 'ay'). Consonants (White): Includes regular and multiple sound-spellings, such as when 's' says /z/ (04:53). Hard & Soft C/G Practice Cards (Orange): Helps students quickly practice and recognize hard and soft sounds. Nasal & Long VCC/Plus Syllable Type (Yellow): Covers less common patterns like the nasal vowel sounds and other phonics generalizations. Metacognition Cards (Blue): This deck is a game-changer! It includes questions and strategies to teach students what to do when they get stuck on reading or spelling a word (02:23, 07:29). Articulation Strategy: The deck also includes a card detailing an articulation strategy for teaching phoneme formation—from looking at the place and manner of sounds to checking if the voice is on or off (01:09). 2. Terminology & Spelling Deck (09:26) This deck helps reinforce the language of literacy: Terminology (Beige): Defines essential terms like morpheme (prefix, base, suffix), syllable types (open, closed, VCe, etc.), and syllable division rules (10:23). Spelling Rules/Generalizations (Gray): Provides common spelling rules and generalizations, with examples and explanations (11:35).
