Investments in AI are skyrocketing, cars are self-driving and ChatGPT is a teacher, therapist and boyfriend all in one. As we find ourselves in the midst of the "AI boom", it can feel like we are living out the plot of a bad sci-fi. But taking a closer look, it's clear that AI is just the latest technology used to exploit workers through new forms of automation and surveillance. We ask: what could an AI future look like for workers? And how are workers pushing back against new and emerging frontiers in collective labour struggle? “Artificial Intelligence: What is the value of human labour?” was recorded at the Red October conference on October 25, 2025 as part of the course “Understanding Capitalism”. This talk features Spring Members Josh Frame and Carlie Macfie. Red October is an annual conference organized by Spring Magazine to discuss socialist ideas and put them in action.
