Moscow is the capital and largest city of Russia. The city stands on the Moskva River in Central Russia, with a population estimated at over 13 million residents within the city limits and over 21.5 million residents in its metropolitan area. The city covers an area of 2,511 km2 and the metropolitan area covers over 26,000 km2. Moscow is among the world's largest cities, being the most populous city in its entirety in Europe, the largest urban and metropolitan area in Europe, and the largest city by land area on the European continent. Living conditions, the economy and culture of the capital are very different from the rest of Russia. Even in the closest suburbs of Moscow and in other largest cities of the country, people are unfamiliar with much of what is an everyday routine to Muscovites. This year, winter did not please us with beautiful Christmas landscapes. The whole of December and early January looked and felt more like late autumn. During the New Year holidays there were two days when there was no rain or snowfall in the morning, and the sky was relatively clear. It was during these days that we managed to drive around Moscow. The streets and roads are almost empty - this rarely happens in Moscow. New Year's holidays in Russia are an officially established long weekend in early January, similar to the Christmas holidays. New Year is the main winter holiday in Russia, and Christmas is celebrated a week later, on January 7th. 0:05 Preview 4:00 Start 14:35 Vykhino-Zhulebino District 16:30 Kuzminki District 23:30 Tekstilshchiki District 30:30 Tagansky District, located between the Moscow and Yauza Rivers. 34:20 Island (Zamoskvorechye) - an artificial island, located right across from the Kremlin between the Moskva River and its old riverbed.
