Today, in our sports encyclopedia series we will talk about Egg and Spoon Racing. Egg and Spoon Race is a fun, children's sport that is played all around the world. The game involves participants running while carrying an egg balanced on the end of a spoon. The basic objective of the race is to legally finish the race in the shortest duration of time. Egg and Spoon racing is an individual sport that involves players competing against each other. The game usually takes place in an open field where tracks are marked accordingly. The distance of the track for the race varies based on the organization that conducts the race. The most common distances are the 50 meters and the 100 meters race formats. The basic concept of the race involves players carrying an egg on the spoon as they race towards the finish line as fast as possible. Before the race, each competitor is provided with a spoon and an egg. All participants are lined up at the starting line with the eggs positioned on the spoon waiting for the start signal. After the start signal is given, all the participants run at their maximum speed holding the spoon with just one hand. It is not allowed for the participants to hold the spoon with two hands. In case the participant touches the egg, there is an immediate disqualification. In a situation where a competitor drops the egg, they should immediately pick it up, put it back onto the spoon and balance it before they can resume running. In certain races, eggs are replaced with boiled eggs to avoid the mess. In different variants of the same race, raw eggs are also replaced with potatoes, tomatoes, lemons, or synthetic eggs. The first player that manages to finish the entire course with the egg still balanced is declared as the winner.
