How to use a speed limiter demonstrated by a driving instructor in a Ford Fiesta. This useful feature can stop you from accidentally speeding and allows you to focus more on your driving. When used manually it is great but the automatic systems often get it wrong. Automatic speed limiters, known as intelligent speed limiters, are controlled by a camera behind the interior mirror which reads speed signs and sets the limit at that number. The problem is that they very often (as in every few minutes) misread speed signs and set the limit incorrectly. If you drive past a car park with a 10 mph sign, the car can think the road you're on has a speed limit of 10 mph and slow you down when the limit is actually 30 mph. I had a time I was driving on the motorway at 70 mph and someone had left a 30 mph sign at the side of the road. The roadworks had long since gone but the car thought the limit was 30. Imagine how dangerous that could be if your car was set to lower the speed based on what it sees! The manual system is much better because you just tell it what the speed is. It can be fiddly at first but you soon get used to it and it's a great system, especially useful when you're driving in a 20 mph zone in Birmingham which can have speed cameras in them at times. The system isn't perfect though and even with it set, you can still speed. Sometimes it just goes over by 1 or 2 mph and won't come back down but generally, it works great. You can override speed limiters by pushing the accelerator to the floor. As with all systems, it can be a useful driving aid but you as the driver are still ultimately responsible for controlling the vehicle. I doubted I could even use it at first because my old GoPro Hero 4 Silver doesn't have image stabilisation like the newer models do and it looked like an earthquake was happening! The camera was fastened to the passenger seat using a GoPro head mount. I am very pleased that my video editing software was able to reduce the shaking to barely anything :)
