Fan game by @HoverBat : https://hoverbat.itch.io/ziiaol This week on Sunday Longplay, I'm playing an enhanced PC remake of one of my favorite video games of all time! Welcome to Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link: PC Enhanced Edition! I wasn't planning on uploading this until next month to begin building the hype for the new Zelda game, Tears of the Kingdom, but with the Zelda Splatfest next weekend, I might as well get the Zelda Month hype train rolling now! The enhanced PC edition of Zelda 2 mostly maintains the same world map as the NES version, but adds so many new features and so much new content to it that it effectively doubles the size of the game! For starters, the original game only had four collectible Heart Containers and four Magic Containers. Here, they're now Heart Pieces and Magic Pieces, and there are 18 of each to collect, with every 3 forming a full container. It's like how the Switch remake of Link's Awakening upped the collectible seashells from 20 to 50. Also, there are many new special power-up items that involve lengthy sidequests that take until late in the game to finish. Some of these items include the Red Ring (obtained by breaking the boulder circle south of Death Mountain in the correct order, which is randomly generated and you learn by talking to the wise men a second time after learning their spells) which acts as a permanent Protect spell (with using the spell increasing your defense even further and turning your tunic blue), the Pendant (obtained by obtaining the Book of Mudora and casting four random spells in the correct order at a temple north of the entrance to Maze Island, and then fighting a Hard Mode version of Carock) which constantly regenerates your Magic meter, the Hylian Shield (obtained by getting the Book of Mudora and casting four random spells in order at King's Tomb) which allows you to deflect any projectile (though you still need the Reflect spell to bounce them back at enemies) and the Master Sword even makes an appearance here (obtained by killing all 12 hidden slime enemies scattered throughout the world and opening a warp zone in the North Castle) giving you the ability to pierce enemy armor effectively eliminating all need for the Fire spell. The second quest also implements some meaningful changes (mostly to two of its boss fights) so it's not just the first quest all over again starting with all your levels. For starters, Helmethead gets a Hard Mode version where its head takes longer to generate after knocking it off and has a swamp floor and two blood drippers on the pillars, and Rebonack gets flame shooters that go off whenever he charges you. But the biggest addition to the second quest is a brand-new endgame area! In the original Zelda 2, the story was that Ganon is dead and the monsters are trying to get Link's blood to summon him back. Here, Zelda (now awakened by the Triforce at the end of the first quest) gives you an empty vial at the beginning of the second quest. Killing Dark Link again will give you a new cutscene where the vial is filled with Dark Link's blood and you get new directions to go south of Death Valley (where the Great Palace is) to the new area of Dragmire (which is also Ganondorf's last name, ironically enough). At the end of another short series of quests, you enter Dragmire Palace where you get to summon Ganon yourself with Dark Link's blood and fight him as the True Final Boss! This blew my mind when I first played it, and I love how the Ganon fight was made with the seemingly overpowered power-ups mentioned above in mind. He hits like a truck even with Red Ring + Protect Spell, the Pendant will keep your Magic up for all the Healing you'll need to do (as well as regenerating the lost MP from the costly brand-new Summon spell needed to start the fight), the Hylian Shield can deflect his fireballs and meteor spell, and the Master Sword can pierce his armor. I love it so much! ======================= Full Sunday Longplay Series: • Sunday Longplay Subscribe and ring the bell for more content! https://www.youtube.com/subscription_...
