WALKS IN HAMPSHIRE at SELBORNE & THE ZIG ZAG PATH (SOUTH DOWNS NATIONAL PARK) [4K]

This is another video in my series “Walks in Hampshire” accompanied by my Whippet (Logan). In this episode, I visit the village of Selborne (4 miles South East of Alton) and explore the surrounding area. My 4.5 mile “figure of eight” route starts and finishes in the village itself. I park my car at a free car park behind the Selborne Arms Pub in the High street and initially head South to my first destination – the base of the iconic Zig Zag path. I follow this unusual path (created in 1753) uphill towards Selborne Common and at the top I get to enjoy some quite stunning views across the Hampshire countryside. My route then takes me through a wooded area – Selborne Hanger -and then down hill again back to the village. I have a little exploration of the village including a walk along the High street (where I get to see “The Wakes” - home of 18th century naturalist Gilbert White) and a look at the delightful village green & pretty church. The top loop of the walk takes me North through some magnificent meadows & woods to a series of enchanting lakes near to the site of an old Priory. My return leg takes me back to the village through Dorton Woods. My journey ends with light refreshments at the Gilbert White Museum Tea Garden in the High street. The weather was quite glorious for the walk – apologies for the odd bit of “sun glare” in the camera lens as well as the odd mistake with names (corrected by text on the video – well it was a warm day!).
