While the Russian armed forces are weakened and overwhelmed, Ukraine is pushing forward with a coordinated and relentless assault on Toretsk. Using precision airstrikes, artillery, and elite ground forces, the Russian defenses are being systematically eliminated, paving the way for the next phase of the offensive. The goal of the Ukrainian armed forces is to exploit the weakened Russian presence and recapture Toretsk. This would thwart Russian plans and force them to prematurely deploy the reserves being amassed for a summer offensive on Kostyantynivka. By engaging Russian forces in another costly battle for Toretsk, similar to previous failed attempts, Ukraine could drain Russian soldiers and resources, thus thwarting Russian progress. If successful, this would indefinitely delay Russian offensive plans for Kostyantynivka, leaving them in a stalemate while Ukraine continues to advance on other sectors of the front. To keep Russian forces in check at Toretsk, Ukraine is deploying some of its best assault units, including the Azov Brigade, as part of a coordinated combined-warfare strategy. This means that Ukrainian forces are not only conducting infantry assaults but also using air support, artillery, and drone strikes to maximize their effectiveness on the battlefield. By using guided bombs to destroy fortified Russian positions, Ukraine has succeeded in inflicting heavy casualties and thwarting enemy offensive plans. Even if some Russian troops survive these attacks, they remain scattered and disorganized, and their defensive positions are rendered useless, making it significantly more difficult for them to launch counterattacks. Meanwhile, Russian infantry units operating outside their fortified positions are quickly spotted by Ukrainian reconnaissance drones and subjected to precise artillery fire. In many cases, just one or two well-placed shells are enough to eliminate entire squads. As Russian soldiers began to keep more distance from each other to avoid being targeted by artillery, the Ukrainians made extensive use of FPV kamikaze drones, which are capable of eliminating enemy soldiers one by one with precision, leaving even scattered units vulnerable. These operations suppressed the isolated Russian forces, who were reluctant to move on open roads for fear of Ukrainian attacks, allowing Ukrainian armored vehicles to drive through the streets with minimal risk. This, in turn, enables the deployment of demolition teams, which systematically locate enemy hideouts. Once located, they plant large explosive charges made from converted anti-tank mines to raze the fortified positions and eliminate the Russian troops inside. Furthermore, the Azov Brigade had been deployed on the southern flank of Toretsk and announced that it had completed its clearance operation in Scherbynivka and Leonidivka, where isolated Russian troops, who had failed to capture the settlements, had been trapped in basements for months. The brigade's assault troops advanced cautiously, using small arms and grenades to drive the Russian troops from their positions. Those who chose to fight were quickly eliminated, while others surrendered, allowing the Ukrainian armed forces to gain complete control of the villages. With stable control of Shcherbynivka and Leonidivka, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have secured the southern flank of their Toretsk Offensive and can now conduct more aggressive maneuvers in the Zabalka microdistrict. Control of this district will allow the Ukrainian Armed Forces to exert more pressure on the Russian southern flank, forcing them to deploy additional reserves and further strengthen their defensive lines. ...
