Mike Lull PJ4 Demonstration

Greg Bump demonstrates the sounds available from a brand new Mike Lull PJ4 bass that features Nordstrand NP4 and Dual Coil pickups. This combination is a wonderful take on the traditional PJ setup, but with a large aperture humbucking pickup in place of the more typical J-style bridge pickup. The sounds in the video speak for themselves, but Greg's take is this: the Dual Coil pickup is a wonderful match for a P pickup. The output of the two pickups blends seamlessly, without the drastic changes in volume or tone which are often the hallmark of PJ basses. The first part of the video features Greg playing basically the same riff three times using different pickup settings each time (neck pickup first, then both pickups, and finally just the bridge pickup). The sounds you hear are the direct recording with no effects. The bass was recorded direct through a REDDI tube DI and P1 preamp, both from A-Designs. The second half of the video is more of a performance piece, and that section includes healthy amounts of delay, chorus and reverb. Greg used the bridge pickup exclusively for the entire piece.
