Hello dear patients. Today we are going to review the case of lichenoid reaction on glans penis. A young man came to us and during questioning it turned out that for a long time, for about 5 weeks he had been taking antimalarial medication – plakvenil. He takes it not by prescription of doctor but on his own as due to this hysteria around coronavirus he started reading the internet and in some sources he read that such medication as anti-malarial one, has a good influence on the treatment and prevention of coronavirus. You can find anything over the internet. He started taking this medication and as a result of that, rashes appeared on glans penis, you can see them on the picture. He also mixed this medication with sumamed antibiotic hoping that he would prevent coronavirus this way. It’s impossible to prevent coronavirus this way, but it’s possible to get that he got - this is described as lichenoid reaction on the skin, on the kin of glans penis in this particular patient. You can see papules, nodules that are almost indistinguishable from classic picture of lichen ruber planus. So, one of medications that I use for treatment of lichen ruber planus are antimalarial medications, plakvenil in particular. If it was lichen ruber planus, then it usually resolves, not appears after use of this medication. So, this can be related to a typical lichenoid reaction, they usually do not appear quickly, these are the allergic reactions of slow type. The main method of treatment is first, the cancellation of these medications, secondly, this is detoxication therapy by type of reamberin intravenously. This patient had five dropping tubes done, then sodium thiosulfate intravenously, calcium gluconate. This patient had itch, so anti-histamine medications were prescribed in parallel. In about two weeks after such treatment and after cancellation of these medications; as I already said, he mixed it with sumamed, these rashes resolved completely. This again suggests that you shouldn’t try to find recipes for treatment of all diseases over the internet, including coronavirus and the recommendations given there are recommendations for doctors; by the way, these recommendations changed a long time ago and now these initial observations were disposed and coronavirus is not treated by anti-malarial medications, so this was not only useless but harmful for this patient as well. So, I would advice all patients to stop self-treatment if possible and to consult doctors otherwise you may harm yourself quite a lot.
