Steve Martin, performed a fundraising challenge for his school, the North Shore Adventist Academy, by playing the tune "Mary Had A Little Lamb" on the most instruments possible in 4 minutes; he scored 46. He did this during his music student's Spring Band Concert on May 19, 2019. Click the banjo icon to the upper left to access Steve's channel and hear more of his music. At this point, Mr. Martin has been the band director at NSAA in Chicago for 36 years, and through this event, he raised $2500 in donations. He sends a special thanks for the support of all those in attendance, including his family, students and their families, alumni, North Shore SDA Church members, and professional musician buddies from the community. This challenge is currently under review with recordsetter.com to obtain sanctioned world record status; no word yet. Except for the French horn, baritone, tuba, piano, wind chimes, orchestra bells, orchestral chimes, and timpani, which are owned by the school, all the instruments he used were selected from his personal collection. In order to break his score, one must follow these rules: -no assistance allowed -complete song must be played (all 26 notes) -melody of "Mary Had..." must be recognizable -must play instruments one at a time -each instrument must be DIFFERENT; however, instruments of the same family may be used if their fundamental pitch, or lowest notes are an octave apart (ie. sopranino, alto, & bass recorder's lowest note F are all an 8va apart from each other), OR a they have a mechanical/material difference (ie. silver flute w/keys & Irish wooden flute w/no keys).
