Sligo Airport Is Located In The North-West Of Ireland, The Airport Is A Small Regional Airport & Has Had No Scheduled Routes Since 2011, Although It Is The Home Of The Sligo Aero Club (a Registered Training Facility) And The Northwest Base for the Irish Coast Guard Helicopter (Rescue 118) A Visit Here Is Always Unpredictable, With Light Aircraft, Private Planes, Irish Air Corps And The Rescue Helicopter Taking Off and Landing Whenever It Needs To. The First Commercial Service, Sligo to Dublin, Began On 4 July 1983, Operated by Avair. Since Then Aer Lingus, Euroceltic and Aer Arann Have Operated The Route, Even A Service To Luton By Ryanair and Manchester By Aer Arann Were Operated For A Time. In 2011 The Airport Lost Its Only Scheduled Route, Operated By Aer Arann, To Dublin Airport Twice Daily. The Final Flight Was On 21 July 2011 Flown By ATR42 EI-CPT. The Flight Ended Due To Poor Passenger Performance, Growing Operational Costs and Development of Alternative Transport Connections To The Region. With Better Roads To Dublin, And The Very Large Success of Knock Airport Only An Hour Down The Road, Sligo Have Not Re-Started Flights In Almost 14 Years, Still Though The Airport Has Continued To Be A Base For The Irish Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter (Rescue 118). General Aviation Also Operates At The Airport, Including Aircraft Such As Cessnas, Pipers, and Beechcraft. Sligo Aero Club Continues To Operate From The Airport. The Airport Receives Occasional Visits From Jets Which Are Suited To Land On The Shorter Runway. Now The Irish Coast Guard Helicopter Which Has Served The North-West of Ireland Since 2004 Bases a Sikorsky S-92A Helicopter 24 hours, 365 days A Year (Which Replaced The Previously Used S-61N on 1 July 2013 The AW189 Now Replaces The Current S-92A on 16 December 2025) It Deals With Many Types of Incidents, Such As Cliff Rescues, Hospital Transfers and Dealing With Sick Patients Off Coastal Islands (Such as Arranmore and Tory In Donegal, & Inishturk, Inishbofin and Clare Island, In County Mayo) All In All, Despite No Scheduled Flights, This Airport Is A Great One To Visit, You Never Know What You Might See, A New Cafe "The Blackbird" Has Just Opened In The Terminal. So Here Is My Sligo Airport Footage From December 2020 Up To Today I Hope You Enjoy This Video
