Subaru's first plug-in hybrid may not have the EV range that Subie's EV hopeful were asking for, but on the other hand I hope we see this system under the hood of ever Subaru model soon. The PHEV system's only compromise is a reduction in cargo space and the loss of a spare tire in the Crosstrek but this could likely be fixed in future models. Delivering 35 MPG in hybrid mode and up to 17 miles of EV range, this isn't for shoppers that want to drive EV only but rather for folks wanting to shift some of their consumption to electricity while retaining the classic Subaru off-roadiness.
