#quiltingtutorial #blockofthemonth #ilovequilting This could be my favorite of all the blocks we've done for this Block of the Month project for 2024. I used three blue fabrics to create a Dresden snowflake for the block. I found a photo on Pinterest of a Dresden Snowflake that I really liked so I set out to create one similar to it. I did not realize at the time that there was already a design and pattern for this. You can access this by searching for the "Midnight Snowfall" Quilt by Brenda Sutter through you search program (Google, etc). I saw one site that allowed you to purchase her whole pattern. Wow, that would have saved me some real time. Since I did not have this information when I started on this project, I set out to create the snowflake myself. To obtain the six sided snowflake (apparently, all snowflakes are six sided due to the way water molecules freeze) and get all the blades we need into the block, we need to create shapes with a 15 degree angle at their base. Armed with my regular sewing ruler (that has a 60 degree and a 45 degree angle marked on it) and a pencil, I created three wedges to use as templates to cut my pieces. The pieces came together just as I expected with a little bit of planning and a lot of ironing/pressing. This one is simply adorable. I hope you have enjoyed this video and all our videos in this Block of the Month series. We will not be doing a BOM for 2025 but I do have a project in mind that will have a series of blocks throughout the year.
