Born into a musical family, he was raised on a variety of musical influences, eventually finding a voice as a jazz pianist and composer. After graduating high school in 2016, he headed west to UT-Austin, where he studied these two crafts with Jeff Hellmer and Dr. John Mills respectively, composing extensively for the school’s Jazz Orchestra and building a career as a gigging jazz pianist. In 2020, he moved eastward to the University of Miami, where he has since completed his M.M. in Studio Jazz Writing and currently pursues a D.M.A. in Jazz Composition as a teaching assistant under the direction of Dr. Stephen Guerra. In his first decade as a working musician and student, Thomas has composed/arranged for and/or performed with artists such as Christian Wiggs, BluMoon, Joe Lovano, Tom Scott, Daniel Dufour, Christopher Cross, Tatiana “LadyMay” Mayfield, Chad Lefkowitz-Brown, and Benny Benack III. Thomas has released several self-produced albums and EPs, the most recent of which, “Adjustments Made”, features a variety of original compositions and guest contributions from several longtime Texas-based collaborators such as Clunis, Paulo Santos, Zach Kursman, Joel White and Aaron Garcia. His upcoming big band debut release, “This is Where I Must Go”, is expected within the year.
