This is the final highlights video of the 2025 MSC World Cruise covering Namibia back to Italy. Walvis Bay, Namibia - Estimated between 55 - 80 million years old, the Namib Desert is widely considered the oldest desert in the world. It receives approximately 1/2 inch of precipitation per year. We opted for the MSC Tour - Quadbike Sand Dune Adventure, which was a 3.5 hour (1.5 at the dunes) adrenaline pumping excursion. We bussed from the port to Desert Explorers Adventure Center near Swakopmund, about 22 miles away. We followed each other through a course of dunes & about 2/3 of the way through split into a group of those wanting to go fast & all others. We chose to go fast! In hindsight, we'd go directly to Desert Explorers as we could have ridden camels & had a more personalized quad experience. A few highlights from the next 8 seas days included: Easter chocolate bar Under the African Skies - singers from South Africa Crossing the Equator (again) Bioluminescence Star smiley face Big Gospel Choir & MSC Choir singing Oh Happy Day Dakar, Senegal - MSC Tour - Bandia Reserve. We got to enjoy the animals with a few of our friends. The 8,650 acrea reserve was 46 miles from the port and has no cats, but there were plenty of other animals - giraffes, ostrich, Eland, zebra, white rhino, blue heron, Patas Monkeys, green vervet monkeys, & crocodiles. We really wanted to see the baobab trees & learned that they used to bury story tellers in Griot tombs within the trees. Back on board we were treated to a Michael Jackson show & an Activities Crew talent show. Puerto del Rosario, Fuerteventura, Canary Islands - We opted for an Dune Buggy experience directly with a local company. Our friends joined us and after getting our buggy, we drove to Grandes Playas Corralejo a local beach. We were there about 15 mins then headed to a volcanic area. After about 1 hour of pavement time finally found the dirt. It was okay, but different from what we expected. Back on board the dining room staff had their final parade, Steve had a ukulele recital, & we saw some amazing acrobats in the theater. Palermo, Italy - We opted to take the included MSC City tour of Palmero & Monreale. We bussed past the Theater Politeama on our way to Monreale where we visited the Cathedral Di Monreale, which is in the Sicilian Baroque style built between 1686 -1692. The bright gold mosaics of biblical stories were impressive. We then bussed back to the Palermo for the walking tour - highlights included the Gate of Porta Nuova, the Cathedral of Palermo, Quattro Canti, & the Church of the Jesus of Professed House - adorned with beautiful mosaics & marble. Back on board we saw Paul McCartney & Friends in Beatles Celebration then the crew joined in for a farewell as some world cruisers were disembarking in Civitavecchia the next day. Civitavecchia, Italy - MSC Tour - Enjoying the Etruscan Towns of Tarquinia & Tuscania. Highlights included: Tarquinia - Palazzo Vitelleschi, Duomo di Santa Magherita, Santa Maria in Castello, Chiesa di San Martino, & Fontana di Piazza Tuscania - Porta di Poggio, Co-cathedral of Saint James 'Maggiore', Fontana Grande, Church of Saint Mary 'Maggiore', & Rivellino Castle Ruins Genoa, Italy - Disembarkation Day! Leaving the ship was simple, but as soon as we stepped off, it was a disorganized mess that took us much longer than it should have. We made it to the train station with our friends & headed to Milan to explore - then on to the Bernina Train in Switzerland! This was the official end of the MSC World Cruise 2025 for us. We learned so much about the world, her inhabitants & ourselves along the way. It wasn't all fun and relaxation as there were many times our patience was tested & our inner peace challenged. We didn't let this deter us & instead focused on what an amazing world we live in. We are all blessed to have the earth as our home and we're very thankful for everyday that we have together. As for the world cruise - we had the rare opportunity to explore many diverse cultures, cuisines, & landscapes while only unpacking once. This eliminated the stress of constant travel logistics while allowing us to relax in comfort. While we know that not everyone can afford a trip like this monetarily, health wise, or time-wise, we encourage you to explore and learn - even if only from a nearby area. Every bit of travel offers a broader perspective. Seeing how other people live can shift your outlook, & help you appreciate what you have while rethinking your priorities & assumptions. There's still so much that we want to say about the world cruise experience as it was so different from the shorter cruises we've taken in the past. We'll be creating videos to cover the good, the bad, and the just plain 'what just happened' moments. Please reach out if you have a topic that you'd like to make sure we include.
