Bukhara is a city like a time capsule, and walking down the streets, it’s very easy to suspend your disbelief that you’re visiting a place from several hundred years ago! We were mostly only in the UNESCO heritage areas, and although it felt slightly artificial, it also was completely charming and I loved discovering the gorgeous madrasas with unbelievably blue tiles and beautiful minarets around every corner. It was 45C in the shade the day I was shooting and my phone battery only overheated twice! It was sweltering hot and I recommend you avoid the summer season if possible. I particularly liked that all the madrassas served as quiet and shady craft pavilions where you could enjoy local artists work. If you like rugs or fabrics you’re in for a treat as there are many to choose from! They also have an impressive collection of old soviet memorabilia!
