India Gate | New Delhi | A Tribute to Unsung Heroes India Gate is located in the heart of New Delhi. It stands on Rajpath, now known as Kartavya Path. During World War One (1914–1918), India was under British rule. More than 70,000 Indian soldiers fought for the British Indian Army in different parts of the world— Europe, Africa, and Asia. Many of these soldiers never returned home.To honor and remember those brave soldiers who lost their lives, a memorial was planned and that memorial is what we today call India Gate. Started in 1921 and was completed in 1931. It was designed by a famous British architect named Sir Edwin Lutyens.
