Fully restored and transformed My Victorian Armchair upholstery project is complete. The chair was stripped right back to the frame, every layer of old upholstery removed, the broken joints repaired, and the brass castors given a serious polish (yes, I know some people prefer the patina, but shiny won out this time 😅). From there, I rebuilt her using only traditional methods: 🔹 New webbing, lashed-in springs with an eight-way hand tie 🔹 Layers of coconut fibre, animal hair, and cotton wadding for strength and comfort 🔹 Hours of hand stitching to form the firm seat edge and rolled shapes 🔹 Finally, top covers in Chamba (Gemstone) and Wild Rice by Lewis & Wood — fabrics sourced locally, fitting since the chair was found locally too. Pattern matching, pleating, tacking, decorative nails… weeks of patient work later, the inside and outside are finished, and she’s ready for another hundred years of life.
