Join us for a special Textile Talk with researcher Joanna Dermenjian on the history of the Canadian quiltmakers behind Ludy Strauss’ project entitled “Artist’s Quilts.” Over more than thirty years, Strauss built a quilt collection defined by bold form, visual power, and a deep respect for creative labor. “Artist's Quilts,” was a project and exhibition developed between 1976 and 1980 in which contemporary artists submitted designs to be constructed and quilted by highly skilled quiltmakers — many of whom were based in Canada. The resulting quilts are now part of the International Quilt Museum’s permanent collection and were displayed as part of the exhibition “The Collector’s Eye: Ludy Strauss.”
